City of Los Angeles, Office of the Controller
Kenneth Mejia became the 20th City Controller of Los Angeles in November 2022. His office is responsible for conducting independent audits; managing accounting and payroll; monitoring City spending; offering insight into operations, policies, metrics, and data; and enhancing financial transparency. As the City’s elected paymaster, auditor, and chief accounting officer, the Controller ensures accountability and financial clarity for Los Angeles. The Executive Office supports his mission through teams focused on oversight, transparency, research, technology, innovation, government affairs, communications, and community engagement. To bring transparency directly to residents, the office employs powerful visual data tools, making City operations and finances accessible to all.
