Call for Makers and STEM Organizations

Welcome to the 2023 Los Angeles (LA) Maker Faire and City of STEM! This year, the Los Angeles Public Library and the Columbia Memorial Space Center are joining forces to combine the two largest celebrations of making, creativity, invention, curiosity, STEM, and hands-on learning in Los Angeles into one extravaganza for the first time.

Exhibitors interested in either event will apply for participation using this shared application form. There are five pages to this application. Your application is complete only after you click [SUBMIT] on the last page of this form. At any time, you can save your application with the [Save and Continue Later] link at the bottom of each page. During the application process, do not refresh your browser, or your answers may be lost. After submitting your application, our team will review your proposal and you will be notified of our decision.

Have questions? For Maker Faire, please contact makerfaire@lapl.org; for the City of STEM, please contact info@cityofstem.org.

  • Step 1 of 5: Introduction

    *Indicates a required field.
  • The reason for this question is to help tailor the application process for makers and STEM exhibitors and to determine who your point of contact will be. We understand there is a lot of overlap between the two communities. Please choose the one that you feel best describes the purpose of your participation in this event.

  • Step 2 of 5: Exhibit, Presentation, or Performance Details

    *Indicates a required field.
  • List your organization name, group name, or individual name(s) or your maker project title. For Makers, you may list up to 3 individuals. More information will be asked later in the application.
  • "Booth or Exhibit" is for organizations/makers that would like their own space for the entire event (includes mobile museums/experiences). "Scheduled Presentation, Workshop, or Demo" would take place on a stage or workshop area at specific time(s). "Scheduled Performance" is for entertainers and would take place on a stage. You may select more than one option if, for example, your organization would like a booth and you plan to hold hourly demos at your booth or you would like to lead a workshop session in the workshop area.
  • Hands-on activities are strongly encouraged! If you do not have a hands-on activity, please reconsider what you could do to engage and inspire attendees. Note: For exhibitors that only select promoting or networking, we may reach out to you to discuss ways to increase your engagement with guests.
  • Commercial Makers are responsible for their own business transactions - whether it be via cash, credit card, barter, or some other means. There is a fee to sell or promote at Maker Faire as a Commercial Maker. The fee will be invoiced in advance and payable prior to receiving your Maker credentials.
  • After completing this form, we will follow up with information about participating as a startup sponsor.
  • After completing this form, we will follow up with information about participating as a sponsor.
  • We are accepting proposals for presentations on stage or in a workshop area. However please understand time is limited and we may not be able to accommodate your request. We encourage you to participate by selecting both a booth and presentation/workshop/demo in "type of presentation".
  • If your presentation can be edited to length, select all the options that could apply.
  • Describe the number of times you are offering to do your workshop or demo at the event. If more than once, do you expect to share the space with other workshops / demos or will you hold the sessions at your own booth? How long is the session? If using the shared workshop space, how much set-up time is needed? What special equipment is requested? If possible, we appreciate you bringing everything you need. Please describe.
  • For the City of STEM and LA Maker Faire teams, explain what your booth/exhibit/presentation/performance/hands-on activity is and describe what you will actually be bringing to the event. This information will not be made public. Be as descriptive as possible.
